Kaya 959 Fires Sol Phenduka Over Misogynistic Remarks About Minnie Dlamini

Commercial radio station Kaya 959 has terminated the contract of breakfast show co-host Sol Phenduka, effective immediately, following the discovery of misogynistic remarks he made about actress and media personality Minnie Dlamini on the “Podcast and Chill with MacG” vodcast earlier this year.

Phenduka had initially been placed on suspension in August as the station conducted an internal review into his public conduct. On 1 September 2025, the station confirmed the termination of his contract, citing a breach of his Independent Contractor Agreement. It was noted that Phenduka had previously given a written assurance in June 2023 that he would refrain from such conduct.

Acting Managing Executive Dave Tiltmann emphasized that the remarks were “unacceptable and inconsistent with the respect owed to women,” and that Phenduka's continued involvement with those comments did not align with the station’s values of trust, integrity, accountability, respect, and inclusivity.

Phenduka confirmed his departure in a succinct post on X (formerly Twitter): “They fired me.

In related developments, Minnie Dlamini has publicly distanced herself from the station’s decision, stating that she was not involved in Kaya 959’s dismissal of Phenduka, despite the legal action she initiated seeking R2.5 million in damages for hate speech, harassment, and unfair discrimination.
